St. Paul’s Cub Scout Pack 529
September Pack Meeting
————————————————————

** September 26 – Pack Meeting
————————————————————

So, we’re doing things a little different this year from last year. Instead of running Pack activities every week, we are doing Den Activities for three weeks, then a Pack Activity on the 4th week of the month. This week, in fact, is our monthly Pack meeting. This will be a great time – we’ll be doing awards, achievements, and recognition of the boys and what they’ve been doing over the last several meetings. As the year progresses, you’ll have the chance to see what our boys are doing with their time, and learn a little bit more about what Scouting is about for our Pack.

If you normally drop your son off, especially as a parent of one of our Webelos, this would be a great day to stay and see what we’re up to.

** Popcorn Update
————————————————————
This is just a reminder – if you have collected money, especially checks, bring it in and get it to our Popcorn Colonel (That’s Mr. Jim Mohr!). In addition, bringing in a fully-filled sheet entitles your scout to a chance in the Councilprize drawings, and they get to put a whipped cream pie in the face of the Popcorn Colonel, or perhaps another leader if they want… heh heh. Mr. Jim’s email address is tubaguy62@roadrunner.com (mailto:tubaguy62@roadrunner.com?subject=Popcorn%20Question) – any questions you might have he’ll take care of you.

** Fall Campout
————————————————————
Tigers, Wolves, and Bears Campout
* We’ll be meeting in the Gym at 7:00pm on Friday, and having activities through the evening.
* All boys need to be accompanied by an adult. Mom or Dad is ok – we have a separate sleeping area for Mom’s and their Scouts, just in case.
* We’ll also need both the medical (http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/parts_ab.pdf) and release forms (http://www.stpaulspack529.com/wp-content/uploads/ActivityConsentFormandApproval.pdf) completed in order for any scout to attend.
* Packing list is HERE (https://docs.google.com/document/d/10eiXc-ZspF6Tpx36XyYNryYnhrBy9FKyhypS072sHE0/edit) . Anyone has any questions, check with your Den Leader or Cubmaster Jonathan
* We’ll be heading home after breakfast and cleanup on Saturday.

Webelos Campout
* The Troop will be running this as a Boy Scouting event, and will give many of our Webelos their first opportunity to see how the Troop operates.
* Cub Scouting is a family activity. Dads are strongly encouraged to attend with their Scout.
* We’ll be meeting in the parking lot behind St. Paul’s at 6:30 on Friday, getting our vehicles packed up and heading out to Camp Schoellkopf.
* Here is information on Camp Schoellkopf: http://www.wnyscouting.org/camping/camp-locations/17411. This web page includes driving directions and a map of the camp.
Drivers also need to provide Driving information to the Pack for the Council’s insurance policy.
* There are 3 Lean-To’s for us to sleep in; anyone who wants to bring a tent is welcome to if they want. Both the pack and troop has some spare gear if necessary.
* The gear list is HERE (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DAreuJOwbfU8ootbldFOwMYBkn700MVw-3jDrrBxYDo/edit) . Anyone who has any questions, check with your Den Leader or Mr. Nagel.
* Activities will continue through to Sunday breakfast, after which we’ll be returning home.

** Parents and Leaders Meeting
————————————————————
Don’t forget – the next parents and leaders meeting is October 14 at Mr. Jonthan’s house. This is your opportunity to voice any concerns and to participate in the successful development of our scouting program. Remember, we’re all volunteers and doing our best at this. We love your input, and we love finding out what we’re doing well and what we can do better.

Pack 529 – September Update

September Update

Hey folks, welcome back to Scouting at Pack 529, and we’re moving quickly into a fun-filled, activity-filled year, including some of the following activities:

  • Webelos/Non-Webelos Campouts
  • A day’s activity at Tift
  • Sky Zone!
  • Winter campout at Scouthaven
  • Hikes to the Eternal Flame, other parks
  • The Bison’s Game
  • More!

At the first meeting, we went over the full “more”, and if you want to get caught up with our plans for 2012-2013, check out the awesome Year of Scouting page that Eric put together for us.

We have the signup sheets for both campouts this week, be sure to sign up. There’s no cost for your scout, as it’s being paid for from your scout’s fundraising activity, so be sure to put it on your calendar. Here are some details:

Non-Webelos Campout

  • Held in the gym at St. Paul’s
  • Starts Friday night, September 28th after dinner (7:00pm)
  • Overnight to Saturday Morning, September 29th (around 9:00am)
  • Fun activities for the boys and dads!
  • Packing list and other details to follow by September 26th.

Webelos Campout

  • Will be at Scout Camp Schoellkopf, in 3 Lean-To’s
  • Starts Friday night, September 28th after dinner (6:30pm) at St. Pauls
  • Overnight 2 nights to Sunday morning, September 30th (around 9:00am), returning to St. Paul’s
  • The Boy Scouts, Troop 529, will be coordinating and teaching the Webelos several Boy Scout skills.
  • Packing list and other details to follow by September 26th.

Pack Meetings

This year we’re organizing meetings a little differently. You’ll see in the calendar posted on our web site that some meetings are marked as “Den Meetings” and some are marked as “Pack Meetings”. On the “Pack Meetings” we will have less time for Den activities, but we will be doing all awards and recognition on that night.

As a parent, this is a good night to attend the meeting and be present as your Scout receives his awards and recognition for the previous month’s accomplishments. We’ll also cover upcoming events and go over any questions or concerns that you might have.

Administrative Details

This year, there are 2 administrative details that need to be handled. First, please print out and return this form before the end of the month. This form provides information about your Scout’s health needs, concerns, etc… and is a base administrative requirement for scouting – not just local council, but national. In addition, we need to get driving information (automobiles and driver information) for anyone who will be going to extracurricular activities. Please coordinate getting this information to Mr. Eric or Mr. Jonathan.

Popcorn update/reminder: please bring in any fully filled-in forms (for the drawing) and any checks or excess cash that you have collected in to Mr. Jim Mohr. His email address is tubaguy62@roadrunner.com – any questions you might have he’ll take care of you.
